10 Questions to Ask Before Hiring a Contractor
By the TaskZing team1 min read
A few minutes of questions before the job can save days of frustration afterwards. These ten cover experience, process and the practical details people most often forget.
About their experience
Start with the work itself.
- Have you done jobs like this before? Can I see examples?
- Who will actually do the work, you or someone else?
- Can I speak to, or read reviews from, a recent client?
About the job
Make sure you and the provider mean the same thing.
- What exactly is included in the quote, and what is not?
- Who supplies materials, and is the cost listed separately?
- How long will it take, and when could you start?
- What happens if you find a problem you did not expect?
About the practical details
These are easy to skip and easy to regret.
- Do you hold the licence or insurance this kind of work normally requires? Ask to see proof if it matters to you.
- How and when would you like to be paid?
- How will we stay in touch while the work is under way?
Write down the answers
Keep the replies in the same chat or document as the quote. If anything is later unclear, you both have the same record to look at.
