How to Photograph Your Work for Your Portfolio
Your phone is enough. A few habits can turn everyday job photos into a portfolio that presents your work clearly.
Use daylight and clean the frame
Natural light is kinder than a flash. Turn on the lights, open the curtains and move tools and clutter out of the shot before you take the photo.
Take the same shot before and after
Stand in the same spot for both photos. A matching before-and-after is the clearest way to show what you changed.
Get the wide shot and the detail
Take one photo of the whole space and a few close-ups of the craft: a clean joint, a neat edge, a finished corner. Wide shots show scale; close-ups show quality.
Hold the phone steady and level
Keep straight lines straight, avoid tilting, and tap to focus. A short, steady video can show a finished room better than a single image.
Ask permission and respect privacy
Ask the client before you share photos of their home, and leave out faces, documents, house numbers and anything personal.
